Build the best gaming pc under $500 for 1080p gaming 2016

Best gaming pc under 500 dollars

Gaming computer were a luxury in the past. People were needed to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to build a decent gaming system. But it has changed. Now we can build a great gaming pc under 500 dollar.

Yes!!! , you read it right for only $500.

I will show you how

But before we get started, you may have questions like:

“Which games I can play with this build?”

Han solo meme

At 1080p high settings depends on the game.

”And I am not going to spoil the movie”

Han Solo Dies

“Is it really under $500 ?”

Yes, probably as the prices changes from time to time.

But ,Can it run Crysis ?”

So let’s back on shall we,

The first component of our build is the processor (dhuu). The processor is a crucial components in a gaming computer , most of the people tends to neglect them and thinks “its only about graphics card”.

So  I will suggest you,

Intel Core i3 6100 3.7 GHz (Skylake architecture) ($119)

Intel core i3 6100 budget gaming

I know you must be thinking ,

“Why are you suggesting a core i3 , and why not an FX processor?”

A: Fist off all it is based on Intel’s 6th generation Sky lake architecture with 14nm lithography and was launched back in November 2015.And for FX processor they are quite old, slower compare to 6100 and you will not have option to upgrade in future.

So what do you get with this processor?

It is dual core CPU and has 4 threads which act as four logical cores in the processor. It has Intel HD 510 graphics integrated on to the processor which can used for multimedia application.

As this processor is based on 14nm fabrication which is very energy efficient and performs quite well than its predecessor. With architectural improvements, higher Instruction per Clock (IPC) and clock speed is achieved than its predecessor without compensating the power and generating less heat.

No of core and Threads2 cores 2 Threads
Base frequency3.3 GHz
Integrated GraphicsIntel HD 510

Even if it is dual core processor its performance is on par with the quad core FX processor if not better. As 6100 supports hyper threading due to which the single threaded performance gets a boost. The single threaded performance is important as it is the most utilized in games compare to other core on the processor.

But this has changed with DX 12 and Vulkan API’s.

Know more about DX 12 and Vulkan

This CPU still performs better than its FX competitor in DX 12 and Vulkan, as its 2 cores are relatively faster than FX has to offer for the price.

Little heads up: If you are on a tight budget, I will suggest you to take a look at the Summary section for more builds.

So let’s move further,

For the motherboard I will suggest

 Gigabyte GA H110M-A($50)

gigabyte budget mobo

I have choose this motherboard for two reason,

  1. It is quite affordable
  2. It is most feature pack motherboard for the price.

This motherboard comes with a LGA 1151 socket which can support the Intel’s 6th generation Celeron, i3, i5, i7 and of course the Pentium processor. It comes H110M chipset which is sufficient for budget gaming PC. So in future if you want to upgrade to a faster processor, you can without any compatibility issues. This motherboard comes in a Micro (“that what she said”) ATX form factor. This board also supports SATA 3 ports which can transfer data at the rate of 6.0 Gbps which are ideal for SSD and high speed hard disk drives.

Intel Skylake architecture supports PCIe 3.0 x16 out of the box which is the latest and provides double the bandwidth for a graphics card from its previous generation. This motherboard support dual channel DDR4 memory, which operates at much higher clock speed than its previous generation (DDR3).It has  front mount usb connector for USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. The rear panel consist of  DVI, VGA ,HDMI ,USB 3.0 and 2.0 ,5 channel audio, and RJ45 LAN port to perform rear i/o operation. So let’s move on to the most important component of our Gaming rig (Yes, you have guessed it right)

ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 470 4GB($199/$189)

Asus rx 470 budget gaming gpu

The RX 470 is a latest budget graphics card from AMD based on Polaris architecture. This card uses 14nm FinFET lithography by Digital Foundries. This card performs like a beast for the price. It is very popular among gamers for 1080p gaming and goes neck to neck with its bigger siblings the RX480 in some cases.

Memory4 GB GDDR5, 256 bit memory bus, 8Gbps bandwidth
Display1 x HDMI 2.0 1 x DisplayPort 1.4 2 x DVI-D
Power supply requirement400W (120W TDP) 6-pin

This card looks quite good in its black matte design and it suits our build color scheme. It has 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, which is sufficient for 1080p gaming PC. And comes with a Direct CU 2 cooling solution by ASUS which uses copper block and two 95 mm fans push the heat away from the GPU. This card comes overclocked out of the box, so it perform better than it’s reference version .It also have a black plate to provide better cooling and improve overall aesthetics.

This card also has illuminating RGB  Republic of Gamers logo which can be customised according to preference.

Some alternatives for Best graphics card for 1080p gaming

EVGA 430 W1 ($30)

evga 430 psu

The Intel’s Skylake and AMD’s polaris architecture are quite energy efficient.By calculating the overall TDP of our system ,it consumes around 400W of power. Looking for efficiency and price, I will suggest the EVGA 430W. The EVGA 430W as the name suggest is a 430W power supply (I know right).  For the price is it quite efficient and will be perfect for our system.  This power supply is 80 plus bronze certified, so it is quite efficient and popular among budget system builder.

Power500 Watts
ATX Connector1
Four Pin Peripheral Connector4
PCIe Connector2
SATA Connector5
Warranty3 Years

The cables coming with the PSU are shielded to avoid EMI interference from other components. It support various power connection options for large range of compatibility. This PSU is quite reliable and trusted among many gamers.

This PSU is quite efficient and is compatible with higher end processor (i5 and i7). So upgrading in the future will be no issue.

HyperX FURY 8GB (2 x 4GB)($40)

kingston Hyper X 8GB RAM

When skylake was introduced to the world, DDR4 RAM had gone mainstream with it. Compare to its previous generation DDR4 is quite a leap. It is very much faster and energy efficient compared to its previous generation.

For our system I have chosen 8 GB of HyperX Fury RAM which is clocked at 2133 MHz. It comes with a black PCB and matte black heat spreader .This helps the RAM modules to remain cooler and provides some aesthetics to its design.

There is a misconception around the Internet that RAM clock speed doesn’t affect the in-game performance (which is some what true). But in bandwidth hungry titles, there are significant  dips in FPS. As we are using memory with higher clock speed it will try to avoid such bottlenecks and provide  optimum experience.
